Who gets it?

Approximately 10% of women in their reproductive years have endometriosis. The cause is probably multifactorial. Recent research shows that, for at least some types of endometriosis, the disease develops during embryonic life and that sufferers are born with the disease. Another theory is that endometriosis may develop during menstruation; look for more information in the film “What is endometriose?”

Research studies can help with the earlier and better treatment of endometriosis and in the future may even lead to prevention. However, for now it is a chronic condition.
