The symptoms of endometriosis vary from woman to woman. The severity of the endometriosis does not correlate with the severity of the symptoms. The most severe endometriosis with mild symptoms and mild endometriosis causing the worst pain may both occur. The precise symptoms are determined by the location of the endometriosis. Women suffer not only from the physical symptoms but also psychological ones due to this condition and also through the long period taken to establish a correct diagnosis.
The most prominent symptoms of endometriosis are:
- Extreme menstrual pain
- Chronic lethargy
- Radiating pain to the lower back and/or legs
- Loss of libido
- Mid-cycle pain
- Pain during emptying bowels and/or bladder especially during periods
- Involuntary infertility
- More miscarriages
- Pain during sexual intercourse
Endometriosis can result in forced life choices, influence relationships and get in the way of the ability to work normally and enjoy normal leisure activities. One must learn to live with chronic disease. Psychological symptoms should not be underestimated.
